The quote from Richard Dorment (the visual arts critic), was the headline in the Telegraph, describes the 100 day contemporary art exhibition in Kassel, Germany that happens every 5 years. He went on to say,”…freelance curator Roger Buergel and his art historian wife Ruth Noack have managed to stage the single worst art exhibition I have ever seen anywhere, ever.”Then Adrian Searle of the Guardian published a review titled “100 days of ineptitude”, described the Aue-Pavilion “ghastly” and the show’s layout “visual sludge”. But Searle conceded that he did admire the works of Zoe Leonard, Lu Hao, Nasreen Mohamedi, Annie Pootoogook, Atsuko Tanaka and Lidwien van de Ven… see below for examples:
Zoe Leonard – Mouth open, teeth showing (at Paula Cooper)
Lu Hao – Shooting 10000 Arrows All at Once – Detail
Nasreen Mohamedi – untitled
Annie Pootoogook
Atsuko Tanaka – ’83A
Lidwien van de Ven – le’ Grand Cafe
