I was raised as an art historian and critic, but I became a dealer because I can’t write essays. Especially academic and insightful theory that dominates this year’s Whitney Biennial catalogue – it’s difficult to get through. (But you already know that if you read this blog; I stick with snarky and insightful)
And on the subject of the Whitney Biennial – after I visited the exhibition in March, I claimed that out of all the works, 4 floors of competition, Omer Fast’s, The Casting, was the best. So listen up all you nonbelievers out there, this month’s ARTnews reports that Fast won this year’s Bucksbaum Award for The Casting.
The award, established in 2000 by Whitney trustee Melva Bucksbaum, recognizes an artist participating in the Biennial – he won $100k and a solo at the Whitney. Obviously Melva and I need to meet soon, since we’re such tastemakers!
